Silhouette S8 by CalExotics scoops Red Dot Award

CalExotics has been awarded the Red Dot Award in product design for its Silhouette S8. Participants from 57 nations registered 5,200 products for the Red Dot Award in product design for 2016. The 41 experts from around the world who make up the Red Dot Jury look for products that set the bar in innovation, formal quality, functionality and ecological compatibility.

“We are greatly honoured and humbled by this award,” said Susan Colvin, founder and CEO of CalExotics. “My team sought out to create something unique and after thoughtful planning the S8 was crafted. Winning the Red Dot Award gives us a huge sense of accomplishment.”

The Silhouette S8 is a body forming massager featuring a completely flexible design, giving users many possibilities in the bedroom. It is made of body-safe silicone and is USB rechargeable, making it an environmentally friendly product the eco-conscious user can enjoy.

The Silhouette collection by CalExotics is no stranger to awards. In 2015, Silhouette received a Creativity 45th Print and Packing Award for its outstanding creative design. Jackie White, executive vice president for CalExotics said: “Silhouette is one of our top performing collections. From its sleek packaging to unique product designs, this collection has it all.”

The Red Dot Award will be presented during a glamorous awards ceremony in July in Germany. The best of the best laureates will accept their trophies in front of around 1,200 guests. At the subsequent after-show party ‘Designers’ Night’, the winners will receive their certificates and celebrate until the early hours in the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen in the midst of the prize-winning products. All award-winning products will be presented in the special exhibition Design On Stage for four weeks, before becoming part of the permanent exhibition.

With around 2,000 exhibits from 45 nations, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen displays the complete range of current product design. In the former boiler house of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein coal mine, it presents products that have won the Red Dot on five floors and approximately 4,000 square metres. Every year, the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design informs around 150,000 visitors about current trends and top achievements.
