Three UK sex toy manufacturers made an appearance on mainstream TV this week in a documentary called Inside The Sex Toy Factory. Aired on 5 Star on November the 5th, the programme visited Doxy, Lovehoney, and Godemiche and representatives from all three companies spoke about the industry itself and their ‘latest’ products: Butt Plug, Uprize, and Ambit, respectively.
Perhaps the programme had a long gestation period because although Doxy’s Butt Plug is a recent release, Lovehoney’s Uprize was launched in April 2018 and ETO reported on Godemiche’s Ambit back in August 2016.
Also appearing in the programme was a Dorset potter who made ceramic dildos, who presented her wares at Brighton’s She Said boutique, and Tim Richardson of Taboo, which is also in Brighton.
The programme climaxed with the three featured toys being discussed by a panel, described as ‘the UK’s leading sex toy industry influencers’, which included ETO columnist Topher Taylor, PR guru Nina Saini, and sex and relationship expert Tracey Cox. All three toys received very favourable reviews.
Narrated in a rather knowing way by comedian Jess Fostekew and produced by Koska, our only criticism of the programme was that it tried to cover too much ground in a single one-hour episode. Still, it was gratifying to see copies of ETO magazine and ETO Awards on-screen in William Garland’s office at Doxy [pictured].
