Dave Cottee's funeral

Dave Cottee’s funeral will be held on Thursday 29th May at 3.20pm at Sutton Road Cemetery & Crematorium, Sutton Road, Southend-on-Sea, Essex SS2 5PX (Tel: 01702 215011). After the funeral mourners will meet at Corks Wine Bar, 34a Moulsham Street, Chelmsford, Essex CM2 0HX (Tel: 01245 258733).

If you are planning to attend, please contact Kate at ABS on 01202 868527 or email her at kate@absholdings.com

Dave Cottee of DBS Distribution died suddenly on 17th May.

“It is an absolute tragedy,” said Mick Bushell of Dom Promotions. “Dave was a legend in the industry. I was a friend of Dave’s for 12 years and he was a lovely man. He is a huge loss to the industry.”

“Dave was a great character,” said Mike Wallace of Darker Enterprises. “He was a very popular man who will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.”

Anthony Ghabbon of Soho Original Bookshops said: “Dave was a larger than life character in every way. He knew everyone and everyone in the industry thought he was a great guy. He will be sadly missed.”

“Everyone here is absolutely shocked at Dave’s passing,” said Tim Hemming of ABS. “Everyone who knew him loved him, as a friend as well as a customer. It is very, very sad.”

“The death of Dave Cottee is a sad loss to the industry,” said Clive Gore of Scala UK. “He was a giant of a man in every way and a close personal friend. His humour was infectious and his pricking of pomposity was an art I have never seen mastered by anyone else. We are all poorer for his passing.”

Dave is survived by his wife, Diane, and his two sons Paul and Steve, and our thoughts are with them at this tragic time.

One of the Family

Dave was that special guy who made up part of the family in a big way. He had time for everyone, on the phone or in person. Kind, generous and full of respect for everyone, something that is missing nowadays. His passing is a great loss for the industry and he will be sadly missed. My deepest sympathy to Diane, Paul and Steve at this tragic time.

Two Boxes

It may take a while to get you to heaven, and I can imagine the confusion when you do. But at least all the Angels will be facing the right way! You always had to battle your way few understood. Of me you always thought that I was a great undiscovered talent and you never knew why I did not seek more, it was because you where there. Dave Sunter Cottee, When your heart failed, mine broke.

BMS

This was my third year in a row meeting Dave and what I noticed is he always had time for a chat. Every year, he would chat with me for about 10 minutes or so. I would really enjoy that. We didn't do any business together either, he just loved people and cared. He must have touch a lot of other people in this magical way. Dave was always smiling. He will be missed by all of us.

Dirty Dave

Cant believe that we're not going to see that smily face and red shoes again.

You were a man with a heart as big as you were, with a wonderful way of making everyone feel special in their own right, when really you were the special one.

Life just won't be the same again,,,,,,,,

Miss you big guy xxx

So very sad

I was so sad to hear the news from Mick at Dom promotions. Dave had given this small Transgender support group A great start in to the world of Magazines, after being introduced to him by Charlie Ferguson. It is a shock to learn the details of how this all came about. Dave was a friend as well as my distributor. We had many chats on the phone and at the shop at Chelmsford.

My heart goes out to his family. Rest in peace Dave. Will miss you. Thank you for you have done for us.

Not only a great neighbour but a great friend too. We could have listened to your stories all day long, you made us laugh so much.

Dave, the only time we saw a sign of weakness from you was with our dog Sam, but he loves you really as much as we do.

Is Steve gonna take your turn putting the bins out now? ha ha

God Bless you Dave, we will never forget you and Ben is gonna miss waving to you out of the window.
