Lovehoney survey reveals more sex forecast for Leap Year Day in the UK

A new Lovehoney survey has revealed that the great British public are planning to celebrate Leap Year Day with a bang. Almost two-thirds of couples (61%) plan to use the extra day on February 29th to have sex, with a quarter of couples (25%) going further and saying they planned to stay in bed all day as it is a Saturday. And this is good news for retailers of pleasure products, as 63% of couples intended using a sex toy.

The results are from a new survey of 2,700 people by Lovehoney. Many couples are going to break with their regular routine on Leap Year Day to get passionate because they usually spend their Saturdays relaxing in the pub (29%), doing DIY (41%), going shopping (43%) or watching TV (66%) – but four out of ten couples said that despite the extra time they would still be too busy for sex.

Almost everyone (98%) would love it if their partner surprised them with a day of romance and intimacy on Leap Year Day. And 91% would enjoy receiving a sexy present – 34% choosing lingerie, 29% a vibrator, and 21% some cuffs.

February 29th is the one day in the calendar every four years when women can traditionally propose of course, and almost one in three women (27%) say they would ask their partner to marry them – just like Radio 1 DJ Greg James’ wife Bella Mackie. She popped the question two years ago and the couple are happily married.

More than a third of women surveyed (35%) said the idea of a female proposing to their partner on February 29th was an outdated and sexist tradition but 48% are OK with it. Two-thirds of respondents (66%) said they would be happy to be proposed to on Leap Year Day.

A Lovehoney spokesperson said: “The findings show why it’s important to make the most of the extra time on February 29th. Four out of ten couples say they will be too busy for sex, but why not make the most of Leap Year Day? Skip the usual pub and Netflix routine for a saucier Saturday and get Leap Year Day off with a bang!”
