.XXX prices go public

The Internet’s largest registrar, GoDaddy, recently announced its pricing structure for the new .XXX TLDs, as did Daily.co.uk, a UK registrar. Other registrars are expected to follow suit, with similar rates. During the initial Sunrise A period, starting on September the 7th, Adult industry applicants with verifiable trademark rights and exactly-matching existing URLs ending in other TLDs (.com, .net, .co.uk, .TV etc) will be able to secure the same address, but finishing in .XXX, for $209.99. This is a non-refundable application fee which also includes the first year domain name registration. Further years will be charged at $99.99 per year. During the Sunrise B period, non-adult firms are invited to block potential cyber squatters by paying $199.99 to secure their intellectual property rights and protect their trademarks for ten years. The processing fee is non-refundable and non-reversible and is chargeable per domain protected. Sunrise B ends on October the 28th.

The Landrush period begins on November the 8th and runs to the 25th, when the virtual gates to .XXX URLs are opened. There are no qualifying requirements but buyers will be charged a non-refundable $199.99 as an application fee for .XXX domain names with GoDaddy – a price that comes with a year’s registration. Renewals will be $99.99pa. It’s intended that Landrush be used by online adult operators but does not guarantee any given domain name. Rather than being given on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis, competing applications will go to a closed auction at the end of the Landrush period.

General Availability is expected to follow from December the 6th, when any as-yet unspoken-for .XXX domains will be available through GoDaddy for $99.99 per year on a first-come, first-served basis.

Prices from Daily.co.uk will range from £49.99pa to £199.99pa, depending on the time/phase of purchase.
