‘Ticketing issues’ blamed for cancellation of Sexpo UK

Sexpo UK, which was scheduled to take place at the NEC in Birmingham next week, has been cancelled. The organisers announced the cancellation on Twitter at 8:00am on 17th October, eight days before the consumer event was due to open its doors.

“It is with great regret that we have to announce that we are not in a position to proceed with the show,” the tweet said. “Anyone who has pre-purchased tickets should contact [email protected]. Exhibitors should contact [email protected]

A more detailed explanation could be found on www.sexpo.co.uk: “Due to a dispute with our ticketing ‘partner’ and its failure to transfer revenue from ticket sales, as agreed, we have lost access to various lines of credit that would have, in combination with ticket sales revenue, funded the event. This situation makes it impossible for us to run the event. We understand that this action, at this late stage, will result in financial loss, not only to Sexpo UK, but those who have booked travel and accommodation. To this end, we are speaking with lawyers with a view to recouping such losses. Anyone who is demonstrably out of pocket as a result of this cancellation should email [email protected] We do not take this action lightly, and sincerely apologise for not only the inconvenience, but also the loss of enjoyment that would have come from attending the event. Also, we would like to apologise to the trademark owner, and others using the Sexpo brand around the world.”

Sexpo UK has been staged once before, under licence by Carnal Creative, at London’s Olympia from 13th-15th November 2015. The 2019 incarnation of Sexpo UK was being run by David Ross, Australia founding event organiser of Sexpo, also under licence from the Australian trademark owners. It was originally scheduled for 12th-14th July but licensing issues with the local council resulted in its postponement to October 25th-27th.
