Sex after social distancing: online platform Shush Life aims to reignite physical intimacy

Ky Hoyle, the founder of award-winning retailer Sh!, has announced the launch of a new sexual wellness platform, Shush Life. Created to meet the growing demand for sexual wellness driven by women and LBGTQI people, Shush Life offers a series of fun and dynamic online courses aimed at boosting sexual enjoyment, knowledge and body confidence.

In the launch announcement, Ky says that although sales of sex toys and related products have soared during the pandemic, and the sexual wellness industry is projected to be worth £100 billion by 2025, it’s not all vagina-scented candles and bunny-eared vibrators. Women and nonbinary people are spearheading the trend, changing the conversation from traditional porn and male fantasy to honest and open questions about intimacy, consent and orgasm equality in the age of sex tech.

“We’re at the start of a new sex revolution,” Hoyle said about the launch of Shush Life. “As lockdown ends, pleasure for everyone will be more important than ever.”

Hoyle was already developing an online platform to increase access to sex advice and skills before Covid-19 struck. When the pandemic forced the closure of her famous Hoxton shop last March, Hoyle and her team of expert sex educators put their energies into taking everything the bespoke female-friendly sex shop had to offer in person and making it available to all online.

The launch of Shush Life on Thursday 4th March features two of many upcoming courses focused on sex, pleasure, and body confidence. Based on 29 years of listening to the diverse needs of customers, the online courses offer bite-sized lessons with enjoyable homework to be completed between classes.

The course Becoming Orgasmic focuses on how participants can bring themselves and others to orgasm with a variety of techniques, toys, and fantasies. The course aims to teach everything they need to know in order to close what is known as the orgasm gap between men and women. Straight women are the group less likely to orgasm compared to straight men, gay men, and lesbians.

The second course, Mind Blowing Blow Jobs, is said to be an explanatory and highly entertaining instruction in how to give and get the best out of oral sex. Both courses are fronted by funny and frank sex educator, Evie Fehilly, and are open to all sexualities and genders.

In a changing, post-pandemic sexual landscape, Shush Life aims to inspire people to have imaginative sex with themselves and/or others. The courses are designed for couples to learn new techniques to arouse each other, as well as for solo sex or even multiple partners – Shush Life is not to judge but to empower.

Hoyle opened her groundbreaking shop Sh! in London’s trendy Hoxton area in 1992 on a £700 budget. The sex pioneer, who once snuck a vibrator into Downing Street as a gift for Cherie Blair, is now bringing her expertise in sexual wellbeing to this online platform.

Speaking ahead of the launch of Shush Life, Ky Hoyle, said: “Shush Life is about about giving people the permission to get into their bodies and out of their heads. Women, especially, have been constrained by lack of empowerment around their sex and sexuality. Shush Life is here to inspire people to have the imaginative sex and experience the pleasure they so very much deserve, especially at this time. The courses are based on the conversations about intimacy that we’ve had with the thousands of customers who have visited the shop or contacted us. We’ve given advice and listened to feedback. Shush Life is a manifestation of that”.
