Orion’s Vibepad nominated for major German design award

Orion Wholesale has announced that its Vibepad has been nominated for the German Design Award 2022. An internationally recognised award for product and communication design, it has been presented annually by the German Design Council since 2011. The Vibepad has been nominated in the Excellent Product Design category and Orion will find out if it wins in October.

Vibepad can perhaps best be described as a remote-controlled cushion, though it also resembles a mouse pad from some angles, which provides external stimulation. The waves in the centre of the pad are designed for the female anatomy – specifically the clitoris, vulva, perineum, and anus – and Orion says this make spot-on stimulation possible, depending on how much the user moves their hips. Their hands are also free to provide additional stimulation elsewhere. The intensity of the vibrations can be easily adjusted with the supplied remote control.

“We are incredibly proud to be nominated for the German Design Award 2022,” said Mark Boderius, head of purchase and product development at Orion. “The first prototypes came from our own 3D printer, and we then repeatedly optimised the shape with further 3D models based on the suggestions of our internal and external product testers. We wanted to design a sex toy that didn’t necessary look like a toy, that provided external stimulation but which didn’t penetrate the body, and which also let the person using it have their hands free for other things.”

The design in prototype form was introduced to the trade at EroFame 2019 and it was launched in November of that year. Orion says the device has since become one of its bestselling products.
