New York retailer Romantic Depot goes mainstream with Trump stunt

New York retailer Romantic Depot was thrust into the media spotlight in April after capitalising on a visit to a neighbouring store by former President Donald Trump. Fox News was covering Trump’s visit to the convenience store, located 30 feet away from Romantic Depot’s Manhattan location, when employees held up a 15-foot banner emblazoned with the words “TRUMP DILDOS ON SALE NOW!”.

Glen Buzzetti, CEO of Romantic Depot, said: “Our team acted swiftly to seize this marketing opportunity by creating the red and white banner which showcased a teaser to our forthcoming Presidential Deal-Dos collection, which are Trump and Biden-themed adult novelty products from Naughty USA Products, LLC.”

Although Fox News mentioned the incident it did not air the footage. However, Jimmy Kimmel, eponymous host of Jimmy Kimmel Live, subsequently did.

Buzzetti reports that the marketing initiative has positively impacted Romantic Depot’s local and national visibility, and the business has benefited from a significant increase in retail store foot traffic and online engagement. “The mention on Fox News was remarkable, but to have Kimmel take notice exceeded our expectations,” he said. “Our goal at Romantic Depot is to bring joy and satisfaction to our customers. The nationwide recognition we’ve received reaffirms our commitment to delivering innovative products and memorable experiences for all.”
