Love charms from LaKama

With the gifting season about to begin, retailers looking to offer their customers something a little different may like to consider a new range of love charms from jewellers LaKama. The charms use clip-on and slide-on clasps which do not require soldering, so they can be easily attached and detached to items of jewellery.

Jeff Klein, MD of LaKama, a Master Goldsmith who was trained by the Queen’s jewellers in the 1970s, explained why the company has chosen to move into the adult sector: “From our experience the best-selling charms are those that mean something to the wearer, have meaning as a gift or attract the attention of collectors. The erotica market satisfies all these requirements but has nonetheless been overlooked. Mainly because of the technical problems involved to create what is a very complicated two part charm at a realistic price. We have solved those problems and the field of erotica can now claim its share of this lucrative market.”

The initial range of LaKama love charms consists of 19 different designs with a focus on heterosexual couples though there are several aimed at gay and lesbian lovers, with more to follow. The charms can be supplied with either clip-on clasps (as used by brands such as Thomas Sabo, Links of London, Giorgio Martello, Amore & Baci etc) or slide-on clasps (as used by Pandora, Trollbeads and Chamilia).  The charms can be worn on bracelets, necklaces, earrings, key-rings and can even be attached to existing body jewellery that has an appropriate ring or area to connect on to.

The charms can be made up with both characters in sterling silver or in different metals (bi-colour); silver and bronze, silver and 9ct, 14ct or18ct gold or by using palladium or platinum in place of silver. Trade prices start at around £25 and go up to more than £400 for a special limited edition range in platinum and 18ct gold. Retailers can expect generous profit margins.

Jeff Klein believes that the designs will appeal to both mainstream and adult retailers. He said: “Everyone has a loved one they get intimate with and LaKama love charms are a fun way of collecting or passing on those precious moments. We are already in talks with well-known High Street stores and adult websites.”

The charms are presented in high quality black and pink velour pouches and POS materials include a sales pad for the charms to sit on. A bespoke countertop display cabinet is also available and stockists who would like to offer jewellery to attach the charms to can purchase from LaKama all-silver or fashionable black oxidised silver bracelets and a range of necklaces of varying lengths with extensions and a stylish keyring.
