London DVD factory closed

An illegal DVD factory in London’s East End, which consisted of 95 burners capable of producing 60,000 DVDs a week, has been closed after police were called to the premises by the leaseholder. During the operation, at a first floor flat in Stepney, four men in their twenties were arrested along with a 15 year old schoolgirl for alleged offences under the 1994 Trade Marks Act and the 1984 Video Recordings Act.

Tower Hamlets Trading Standards Officers and representatives from FACT later confiscated 8,000 DVDs which allegedly contained copies of R18 material and mainstream film titles.

Tower Hamlets Trading Standards Manager John McCrohan commented: “This is an enormous haul for us. Police came across this ‘DVD factory’ and contacted us for support. It follows a number of planned raids in the area.”

Police Chief Inspector Rob Revill added: “We will continue working to target these illegal DVD factories. This is an excellent result.”
