LELO has commissioned applied futurist Tom Cheesewright and sex expert and certified therapist Kate Moyle to create a report forecasting sex trends in the decades to come.
“When it comes to the future of sexual wellness, understanding it is more about understanding the future itself than it is understanding sexual wellness alone,” said a LELO spokesperson. “As any futurist will tell you, there is no way to predict the future. Experts can only think of various scenarios and asking the right questions is key.”
Unsurprisingly, technology features heavily in the report.
“No matter how one feels about the prospect of human-tech relationships, one thing seems inevitable,” said LELO’s spokesperson. “In a world where sex toys are digitally operated, when people are forging relationships through apps, the truth is that not long from now almost everyone will be participating in this reality to some extent.
“Technology has already altered the way we approach dating, friendship, and family. It is redefining the very core of our lives. And instead of the ultimate result being a familiar dichotomy – the utter fulfilment in personal life or a lonelier existence – our experts propose that the future will be a world of endless possibilities that will generate a set of alternatives to relationships and achieving pleasure. In a nutshell, the future of sexual wellness is creating endless options and distributing them tailor-made to every person.”
The report suggests that in the future people will have more sexual partners, but at a later stage in life, and they’ll have less sex with their current partner, but more sex in virtual environments.
The report also expects sex toys for men to become more popular, and one of its conclusions is: “New technologies can champion greater inclusion and support the human right to safely express and enjoy sexuality and have the choice to live a life with pleasure. This means technology will further destigmatize sex for even more groups of people, like the older population or people living with specific disabilities and dysfunction.”
