Industry veteran Kim Airs is to be inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame in recognition of her three decades in the pleasure products sector. US trade magazine AVN introduced its Hall of Fame in 1995, to recognise individuals and companies who have made significant contributions to the adult industry over a period of ten years or more, and pleasure products have been included since 2011.
“This is certainly an incredible honour to be recognised by my peers in the industry I love so much,” said Kim. “After being in so many aspects of the sexual health and wellness sphere since 1993, and a consumer since 1987, I am so grateful to be acknowledged by my peers for my contributions to this important segment of the community.”
Kim opened the groundbreaking sexuality boutique, Grand Opening!, in 1993, in Brookline, Massachusetts, when she left her high-ranking job at Harvard to create a store that was comfortable for everyone to shop for their personal needs. Her award-winning store remained open for 12 years, and Kim went on to move into sex education, sales, writing, podcasting, product and brand development, and on the road training representing companies large and small.
Kim has been featured in countless media and created the first amateur adult film festival in 2000, which became a long running documentary on HBO. While in Brookline, Kim became a prominent business representative for many years as Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce.
Kim added: “I am as passionate about this industry and sexual wellness in general since my introduction to the adult world in 1987 and this honour is truly a pinnacle of praise for my ceaseless fascination of all things pleasurable.”
The 2024 AVN Awards will take place at Resorts World, Las Vegas, on Saturday, 27th January 2024.
