Paul Smith, ETO’s Features Editor, recently launched his second adult business venture. Selling distributor overstock and shop clearance DVDs, toys, clothing, consumables and novelties to adult retailers via Trader18.info, he intends to develop the site into a fully-formed business.
Having freelanced for ETO since 2003, Paul’s no stranger to the adult industry. In 2007-8 he directed and produced an adult movie – Cum Fly With Me – for a series of articles. The film sold 2000 copies on DVD and performed well online. He hopes to exceed that success with Trader18.info and his plans attracted an unusual backer; his mother has faith in her son, having helped pay for his initial stockholding.
Paul explained, “I saw a business opportunity but didn’t have enough free capital to fully embrace it. A call to my brother meant I could have the money, but he wanted me to do all the work for half the profit- not an ideal situation. So I pitched a ‘pay-you-back-when-I’ve-got-it’ deal to my mum and fortunately, she could see the potential in the idea. She’s just waiting for me to sell some stock now. Selling packs of twenty new R18 DVDs to licensed retailers for an introductory offer price of £36 plus delivery, Paul is additionally gearing up to supply used DVDs by purchasing PX stock and has 18-rated films, toys and other lines for unlicensed retailers. He’s also keen to develop additional suppliers; particularly distributors with overstocks and retailers interested in shop clearance.
