Doc Johnson hosts press tour with The Standard, Downtown LA and Pillow Talk event series

As part of its continued partnership with The Standard, Downtown LA hotel, Doc Johnson welcomed 25 guests from Fiona Duncan’s Pillow Talk event series for a press tour of its factory and campus in North Hollywood in June. The press tour gave the 25 contributors and panelists a behind-the-scenes look at the creation process for some of Doc Johnson’s most popular sex toys, from its lube laboratory to its multiple manufacturing and production areas across the company’s 215k sq. ft. campus.

Pillow Talk is an event series by author and community organiser Fiona Duncan which is presented monthly at the hotel’s penthouse suite. It is designed to educate and empower a diverse audience of millennial participants and media influencers with topics relating to sex, the zeitgeist, and pop culture.

The partnership began when Doc Johnson arranged for its Pop Up Pleasure Machine—a bright pink traveling sex toy vending machine— to pop up at The Standard, Downtown LA for select events in January, February, and March of 2018. Since then, Doc Johnson has been a sponsor and partner to The Standard and Pillow Talk.

“We are incredibly proud of the ongoing relationship we have built with The Standard, since we first popped up in their DTLA location earlier this year with our branded sex toy vending machine,” said Doc Johnson’s Erica Braverman. “There has always been a stigma surrounding sex toys in our culture, but we see that changing, and we want to be a major part of the movement to normalise it. The Standard is an iconic, forward-thinking company known for turning things upside down—and the brand has made its mark as a relevant lifestyle brand that is two steps ahead of culture at large. Partnering with them is really important to us because it symbolises a changing of the tides, and a shift from sex toys being stigmatised to gaining more and more mainstream acceptance. The core idea of Doc Johnson’s partnership with The Standard and Pillow Talk is to continue breaking down these walls with great, well-designed and pleasurable products, as well as open conversations about sexuality and thoughtful collaborations.”

Gregory Alexander, The Standard Hotel’s nightlife and culture area director, said: “We’re very happy with our continuing partnership with Doc Johnson as they’ve been so amazingly supportive, giving, welcoming, and collaborative to us and our programme. They are truly innovative leaders in their field, and the added family and community aspect speaks so fluently with our standard ethos. It’s been a pleasure we hope to continue for a long time to come.”

“I’m so grateful for Doc Johnson’s ongoing support of Pillow Talk,” said Fiona Duncan, creator of the Pillow Talk event series. “I couldn’t think of a better collaborator for our community sex and love programme than a locally-made pleasure-oriented family business. The Pillow Talk community feels very lucky to share in their goodies.”
