Bijoux Indiscrets is celebrating ten years in business by creating a rather unusual project – the Library of Real Orgasms. Company co-founder Elsa Viegas (pictured) suspected that people don’t always prioritise their feelings, pleasure, or connecting with their bodies, so decided to carry out a study (the first of its kind to be conducted in Spain) which revealed the prejudices and taboos that condition sexual behaviour. Over 1,500 people were surveyed and more than 300 hours of research went into the project, which looked at fiction vs reality in sex. The conclusion is that people ‘fictionalise’ their pleasure, due to the influences of pornography, Hollywood romanticism, or social myths and taboos.
In order to present the results of the study, the Library of Real Orgasms was born – which is described as the world’s only library to contain 100% real orgasms that give a voice to true female pleasure. “The aim is to build bridges for dialogue, generate debate and, above all, to reclaim pleasure as a fundamental right for women to enjoy too,” said Elsa Viegas. “In the midst of the 21st century, this study showed that sexual freedom and the right to enjoy sex is almost exclusively reserved for men.”
