With May being Masturbation Month, Ann Summers has put together the ultimate guide for female masturbation on its blog. Citing statistics suggesting that 40% of women prefer masturbation to sex, and that only 22% of women admit to masturbating daily compared to 40% of men, the retailer hopes the initiative can help to break taboos, and encourage women to feel more comfortable discussing the topic. It also details how masturbation can be beneficial to women’s health and offers a few technique tips to take pleasure to another level.
“The many health benefits of masturbation are reason alone to indulge in self-pleasure,” the company said in a press statement. “Masturbation releases dopamine, endorphins and oxytocin, all of which fight cortisol – the main stress hormone. Because of its stress-reducing effects, self-love helps improves sleep quality, increases body positivity and confidence and is a natural pain reliever.”
With a host of masturbation tips, including solo play, mutual masturbation with a partner and recommendations of which toys to use – all from Ann Summers, obviously – the guide is designed to help women get the most out of Masturbation Month. And, once they have discovered their likes and dislikes, they might introduce their partner in to the mix and engage in some mutual masturbation.
Megan McCormack, Ann Summers’ in house sexpert, commented: “Masturbation Month is a great way to get to know yourself on a more intimate level and should be celebrated by women. Masturbation is a perfect way for women to get to know their likes and dislikes and with so many beneficial factors, why wouldn’t you want to embrace 31 days of pleasure? Take this month to explore and change your pleasure game.”
For more inspiration, Ann Summers is also hosting weekly challenges on its blog every Wednesday throughout May.
