At a pub with blacked-out windows in Holborn – The Enterprise, to be exact – on a wild and windy Saturday night – November the 24th, to be exact – around 80 industry folks and invited guests gathered for this year’s UKAP Adult Film And Television Awards.
UK Adult Producers (UKAP) have been holding the broader industry’s alternative to TVX’s SHAFTAs since 2010 at a variety of ‘secret locations’ in London and to access this year’s party, ETO’s Paul Smith had to give a password on the door before being allowed in to mingle with directors, photographers, producers and naturally, performers from all corners of the UK industry. What surprised him was the number of new performers joining the industry at a challenging time for it; Barbie Stroker and Rachel Travers to name just two.
Ahead of the awards, which started at a well-lubricated 11pm with the party beginning at 7.30, there was much talk of cam shows via AdultWork.com – a growth area for performers while DVD production continues to fall – and comparing the shortness of skirts and blingness of shoes. Sparkles and leopard print are both on trend for today’s porn stars.
New to the industry, but already making a name for herself, Brooklyn Blue was the “hostess with the moistness”, joined on stage by a selection of colourful companions to fight gold envelopes and announce the winners of the ten different categories. The nominees and winners were:

With a convivial atmosphere (busy bar), decorative ladies (glamour-model types – one of who turned out to be a nanny, unexpectedly) and decorated ladies (tats out for the lads) were hitting shooters from the pub’s handy list that proclaimed that The Enterprise was ‘Where Beautiful People come to get Ugly’. All surrounded by airplanes hanging from the ceiling, fish in cases, lots of mirrors, a surprise owl and several hookahs. Steady now.
Paul chatted to Brooklyn Blue and learned that she’d come third on the E4 show Tool Academy. Jay K of Real Punting was sans hat but looking dapper and male Jamie Rocket was working the room. Sofia Rae, Angel (a very keen Bond fan), Busty Cookie, Tracey Lain and Faye Rampton were all spotted having a large one too. So to speak.
Having picked-up two awards for Harmony Films on behalf of Gazzman and Tanya Hyde, Big Bad Dave said: “They’re going to be very happy to have won twice. Very pleased. It’s a team effort of course; great cast, good locations, talented direction and editing. Harmony take great care with their films and these awards recognise the amazing creative teams behind these movies. Chuffed!”
Kai Taylor, who won Best Male this year to add to his one from the 2011 awards, said: “It feels amazing to have won two years running. Definitely a result! It’s great to leave the industry on a high. In the two years I’ve been in the industry I’ve cracked Europe, where many UK studs have failed, but after over 500 scenes it’s time for me to hang up my… I’ve worked with some of the best people, had some brilliant times but it’s the right time to stop – for the love of a beautiful woman. She’s my baby. I met her on my second scene and we had chemistry from the get-go. Love conquers all!”
Jessica Jensen, who’d been very emotional on stage while receiving her beautifully engraved award as Best Female, told ETO: “I’m so glad to have won! It means the world to me, absolutely. I never thought I’d win and given that I only began my career in the adult industry eleven months ago and here I am, almost a year on, still a newcomer really but winning the Best Female award; it’s made me so happy! It’s hard to put into words, to describe… I just want to say, to whoever voted for me, thank you so much. I’m going to party hard tonight man!”
