AITA scores at Chelsea

Trade body AITA has revealed that an adult retailer in London’s Kensington and Chelsea has successfully negotiated its licence renewal fee down to £6,300 from the previous £14,900.

AITA has been lobbying for councils throughout the UK to reduce licence fees for the last two years, with some spectacular results, and this case is seen as important because the Kensington and Chelsea application process is particularly complicated.

An AITA spokesperson commented: “This must be a great inspiration to those still fighting for reduced fees, particularly other London Boroughs such as Islington, Hammersmith and Westminster.”

To progress this campaign further AITA is asking every licensed retailer to email [email protected] if their licence fee has decreased – or increased – during the last year. This information will help the association’s campaign in areas that have so far refused to reduce their fees.

“Licensed sex shops are the backbone of the UK adult industry and have suffered badly from high fees and restrictive legislation,” said an AITA spokesperson. “This information will greatly help us to progress with the AITA campaign and benefit a lot more outlets.”
