Erotic film director Petra Joy has announced the creation of the first international erotic film award for new female directors. The Joy Award, which will be sponsored by Pjur Group, will recognise the three most talented new female filmmakers at an awards ceremony held at the Pornfilmfest in Berlin between 22nd and 25th October. The three winning films will be shown at a public cinema screening there, and there will also be cash prizes for the winners and an opportunity to have their films included on Petra’s forthcoming compilation, Her Porn Volume Two
“I would like to inspire female filmmakers to take control, get behind the camera and show erotica from a female perspective,” said Petra. “My wish is that this award will help to make more female erotic filmmakers seen, heard and published.”
Alexander Giebel, founder and CEO of the Pjur Group explained his company’s motivation for sponsoring this new award: “Petra Joy’s idea was welcomed by us. The Joy Award is innovative and unique and this suits us to the ground. I would like to redress the balance and hope that one day 50% of all films, including porn, will be directed by women. The theme for the Joy Award is ‘What is erotic to you?’ I want to encourage more and more women to get behind the camera and express themselves. I am really happy and proud that Pjur is sponsoring this award and enabling me to hand out not only trophies to the winners but big, fat cash prizes too.”
