Pipedream’s latest addition to its Super Star Series of love dolls could be its most successful – and most controversial – yet, with initial shipments selling out and its ‘inspiration’ reportedly being ‘incensed’. The Just-In Beaver Love Doll appears to have been inspired by a certain teen pop star, with a lookalike featuring on the box artwork and straplines include: “I’m not gay (OK maybe a lil’”, “I wanna be your boy toy”, “He still needs practice”, “Beaver fever” and “Selena can suck the gold off my Grammy!”, which appears to be a reference to Selena Gomez, girlfriend of that certain teen pop star.
Online news sites were quick to cover the release of the doll and Pipedream is encouraging every adult retailer to stock the product to capitalise on the media coverage.
“Nobody creates products with mainstream crossover appeal like Pipedream,” said Pipedream CEO Nick Orlandino. “The publicity we receive when one of these celebrity dolls hits the market is priceless. Our customers will definitely experience rising sales as Just-In Beaver blows up – literally!”
Someone close to Justin Bieber was quoted by The Sun as saying: “Justin is absolutely incensed with this monstrosity. He’s already set his lawyer on these sickos.”
Within two days of the announcement of the doll’s release, Pipedream’s website experienced over two million hits. The company is more than familiar with the media coverage generated by its Super Star Series of love dolls, with its previous release – Finally Mylie – being inspired by another teen idol, Miley Cyrus.
