Jail for mail order porn merchants

Two men who ran a mail order porn DVD business have been jailed for 15 months each. The men, Tehsin Panju and Hitendra Patel, set up a firm called Direct Media in 2002 to process orders for DVDs which were sent to a PO Box address.

When their Shepherds Bush HQ was raided last year, police required five lorries to remove all the DVDs – making it the largest seizure of pornographic material the Metropolitan Police Obscene Publications Unit had ever dealt with. Also seized was copying equipment, a client database containing thousands of names and a significant amount of cash.

Both men admitted conspiracy to publish obscene material and Panju also admitted three counts of money laundering.

A confiscation hearing will be held next year.
