Fifty Shades set to boost adult retail once again this May

Retailers can prepare for yet another surge in interest this May courtesy of the Fifty Shades franchise, with the release of the blockbuster film to our nation’s homes in May. Universal Pictures has announced that Fifty Shades of Grey will be available On Demand and on Blu-ray and DVD on May 8th, as well as Digital HD on May 1st.

The Blu-ray edition includes both the unrated and theatrical versions of the film, along with character profiles, various music videos, and an interview with author E.L. James, while the DVD version, unfortunately includes only the cast member profiles and behind-the-scenes ‘making of’ footage.

The film, which is Universal Pictures’ highest-grossing R-rated movie internationally, has grossed over $500 million at the global box office and was the UK’s highest ever box office opening for an 18-rated film.

The franchise has two sequels planned, in keeping with the book trilogy, which continues with Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.
