Ann Summers spoof of John Lewis Christmas ad goes viral

The John Lewis Christmas ad is quickly becoming an awaited annual event for both consumers and marketers alike.

Last year’s Adam & Eve produced tearjerker, ‘The Long Wait’ campaign, which cost the company £5 million to produce and run, featured a boy eagerly awaiting Christmas day only to reveal that he was keen to surprise his parents with a gift rather than unwrap his own. This year, ‘The Journey’, which features a cover of the 1984 Frankie Goes to Hollywood hit ‘The Power of Love’ by Gabrielle Aplin, has so far had a mixed reception. The story is a simple one, described by Adam & Eve as the “story of two snowmen that shows the extra lengths we go to to find the perfect gift for someone we love”.

An unofficial Ann Summers spoof on the concept has added a more exciting twist, though, by replacing the scene showing a new hat and gloves being worn by Mrs Snowman with that of a noisy vibrator in use and a grin on her face. The strapline “Get a little more action this Christmas” replaces the original “Give a little more live this Christmas”.

The 45,000 Youtube views on the parody doesn’t come close to the 1.7 million of the John Lewis original, which was uploaded on the same day, but it does set a record for John Lewis spoofs and is looking set to become a Youtube classic in its own right going forward.
