18 months jail for dealing in fake DVDs

A London video shop owner was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in December after admitting making and possessing for sale over 4,800 counterfeit DVDs – including 1,600 R18 titles, which can only be supplied by licensed sex shops.

The 50-year-old shop owner pleaded guilty to six counts of infringing the Trade Marks Act 1994, two counts of infringing the Copyright, Patents and Designs Act 1988 and two counts of infringing the Video Recordings Act 1984. An additional 1,947 offences were also taken into consideration.
